What is an ERV (Energy Recovery Ventilator)

What is an ERV (Energy Recovery Ventilator)

We have an expectation of its existence but never speak of its name. Can you guess what it is… it creates clean, fresh air in our home. It’s an Energy Recovery Ventilator and it helps to provide a house with fresh air, manage humidity levels and air temperature. Energy Recovery Ventilators are becoming more common because new buildings are becoming more airtight.
Air Highway
Firstly, the ventilator is like a highway so that fresh air from outside can travel inside and the current air in the house can escape.
Regulates Temperature
As you can imagine, there would be a temperature difference between fresh air from outside and the current air within the home so the ERV unit either pre heats or cools the air so that the house occupants can receive the fresh air while maintaining the current home temperature.
Humidity
The ERV also has a heat exchanger that helps to remove any humidity.
So what you end up with is good air circulation in a house. So its easy to understand why you never realise an ERV exists. While you are chilling out and watching TV its monitoring and exchanging stale air from inside with fresh air from outside for your home.
